Amanda R. Martinez is a science writer and multimedia producer. She's written for The Atlantic, Scientific American, Seed magazine, and Science News for Kids, and produced pieces for PRI's Living on Earth and the Marine Biological Laboratory, among others. Amanda holds a master’s degree in science writing from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she focused on marine science reporting and studied at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. She was proud to receive MIT's S. Klein Prize for Scientific Writing for her article on neuroscientists' attempts to isolate the source of creativity in the brain during musical improvisation. Her thesis work examined the origins and fate of plastic trash in the ocean and investigated its impacts on marine ecosystems. Born and raised in Chicago, Amanda has a bachelor's degree in playwriting from Yale University and is the author of several plays.
