Ashley Stewart

Ashley Stewart received a Master of Environmental Science at Yale University’s School of the Environment. Ten years of experience as an environmental engineer and project manager has informed her expertise across the gamut of water management: distribution, storage, discharge and flood planning. She distinguishes herself in environmental planning, permitting, funding, negotiation, construction management, community engagement and racial equity. Ashley has explored ways to co-create engineered solutions, incorporating her training as a race dialog facilitator into her environmental management practice. She believes that lasting and impactful solutions are developed from richly collaborative efforts particularly those that acknowledge the community’s history and lived experience.

Having grown up in Connecticut, Ashley cherishes the chance to continue contributing to this state; she works with towns to implement equity into their municipal process and environmental sustainability projects. She has worked to support equitable local planning, protect the state through management of dams, and organize community outreach. Currently, Ashley is conducting research on equity and environmental decision making involving marginalized people groups with emphasis on the Black community. Her academic study involved qualitative data collection to inform technical solutions. Areas of interest include environmental justice, water resource and land management, communication between residents and government, and local planning.
