About Brenda's Work

Brenda Grewell is a research ecologist with USDA-Agricultural Research Service’s Exotic and Invasive Weeds Research group, with a faculty affiliation in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of California, Davis. As a restoration ecologist, she is engaged in applied research to support ecological restoration of weed-invaded wetland ecosystems. Recent efforts include ecological studies of invasive creeping water-primroses throughout the western United States and in their native South American range; research to support riparian restoration following invasions by multiple species of exotic weeds; and restoration of endangered salt marsh plant populations. In 2003, Brenda was a Fulbright fellow in the Czech Republic where she studied the ecological variation of invasive purple loosestrife (aggressive invader of North American wetlands) in its native European range. Her Ph.D. work at UC Davis focused on how parasitic plant interactions influence species diversity in northern California salt marshes.
