About Brett Amy's Work
Brett Amy Thelen has been directing place-based, conservation-focused community science projects for more than 20 years, with dual emphasis on creating a valuable learning experience for volunteers and producing reliable, reproducible scientific results. She is currently the Science Director for the Harris Center for Conservation Education, a non-profit land trust and environmental education organization in the Monadnock Region of southwestern New Hampshire.
She remains deeply committed to writing as a tool for increasing ecological literacy, building community, and supporting environmental practitioners in their work. Her writing has appeared in Northern Woodlands, FrogLog, and other publications. She is also a former editor and editorial board member of Whole Terrain, a nationally-acclaimed journal of reflective environmental practice.
She received her M.S. in Environmental Studies: Conservation Biology from Antioch University New England in 2007. Prior to her graduate work, Brett volunteered with an AmeriCorps program focused on land conservation, water conservation, and environmental education on Cape Cod, and served as the lead on several environmental education, natural resource management, and ecological research projects for Cape Cod National Seashore. Brett received her B.A. in Literary & Cultural Studies from the College of William and Mary.
