About Chelsi's Work
Chelsi Sparti holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, and is pursuing a Master’s of Energy and Resources at Cal Berkeley. Her research examines how communities in Puerto Rico recover livelihoods and electric systems after repeated extreme events. She is interested in the decarbonization potential of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disbursements and how risk from energy system vulnerabilities can be mitigated by policy incentives in renewable technologies.
Prior to graduate school Chelsi served as a Fulbright Scholar to Sarawak, Malaysia, worked three years in the private sector, and four years at a nonprofit advancing nuclear waste policy. Her environmental leadership was recognized in 2019 with a Women’s History Month Award presented by California Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins. Chelsi is of European descent and belongs to the Northern Wintu People. She centers her connection to nature in all her work.
