Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson has been executive director of the nonprofit California Invasive Plant Council since 2002. He currently serves on California's Invasive Species Advisory Committee (www.iscc.ca.gov) and as an officer with the National Association of Exotic Pest Plant Councils (www.naeppc.org). Cal-IPC serves natural resource professionals by aggregating scientific materials on the impacts, ecology and management of “wildland weeds” in the state. The organization advocates for stronger invasive species policy at the state and federal level, and develops online mapping tools to guide statewide planning in the face of climate change. Doug has worked in natural resource management with California State Parks, The Nature Conservancy, and Environmental Defense. He also has a background in alternative energy engineering, and worked for nine years for the City & County of San Francisco on energy conservation, participating in drafting the municipality’s first greenhouse gas emissions plan. Doug’s graduate research in geography examined the production of landscape meanings on the Colorado Plateau, with a specific focus on recreation, environmentalism, and media imagery in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.
