Stabinsky offers "different perspective" to Nepali student who built agriculture-supported schools at home

Surya Karki ’16 recently returned from London after attending the ceremony for the 2013 Unilever Sustainable Living Young Entrepreneur Awards, where he met His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. Karki was one of seven finalists for the award.

In 2011, Karki helped create Maya Universe Academy, the first completely free education institution in Nepal. There are currently three schools in different parts of Nepal, where about 142 children receive free education. Instead of contributing money, parents give two days per month of voluntary work in the schools’ adjacent gardens. The crops from the farms are sold to generate revenue.

"You know when you have a teacher like Doreen who says that you might want to do a bit more, or in a different manner, it makes you think that yes, there are always different perspectives in the world, and you tend to appreciate it."
