Vasquez-Rodriguez joins RCAC to support Indigenous and rural clean water
Itzel Vasquez-Rodriguez has begun working as Small Utilities Project Manager at the Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC), working to support the human right to water in California.
As stated on their website, RCAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates in 13 western states and Pacific islands. They serve Indigenous and rural communities through training, technical and financial assistance and advocacy. RCAC works with rural water, wastewater and solid waste systems to make them sustainable. Their services are directed to small, low-income rural and Indigenous communities to ensure that they comply with state and federal regulations. RCAC’s five core service areas are capacity building, technical assistance, advocacy, training and access to resources.
Vasquez-Rodriguez’s role in RCAC’s Environmental Department in Southern California will focus on SAFER and Septic to Sewer projects. “I'll be working directly with water systems to help them get and stay in compliance,” Vasquez-Rodriguez says. “While also helping them build capacity for this work.”
