About Heather's Work

Heather works in southeast Oregon for the Nature Conservancy coordinating a broad cooperative effort to conserve and manage sage steppe. She previously worked for the Forest Service in Bishop, CA as a range manager. She has a Master’s degree in Range Management from the Department of Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management at the University of California, Berkeley. Her Master’s research, which was partially supported by the Switzer Fellowship, addressed recent stream incision and sagebrush expansion in montane meadows of the Kern Plateau in the southeastern Sierra Nevada. She grew up in a rural area in northeastern Washington and is interested in resource use and landscape change in the Intermountain West and in bringing together diverse groups for better land management.
