Janelle Heslop

Janelle is a dual degree candidate at MIT, where she is pursuing both a M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and an M.B.A. At MIT, Janelle is exploring ideas at the intersection of environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, analytics, and technology. She was recently named the 2018-2019 Co-Director for the MIT Water Innovation Prize, a startup competition for water-related technologies, and has been co-leading the development of a marketing and sustainability strategy for a promising MIT food and ag tech startup. Before MIT, Janelle spent over seven years as an environmental consultant and engineer. Most recently, she was a manager in the Resource Optimization group at Veolia, a leading global environmental services company. While at Veolia, she managed the operations of large-scale performance improvement and sustainable operations programs for water utilities. Prior to Veolia, Janelle was a consultant at GreenOrder where she advised Fortune 500 companies, such as General Electric, on their environmental innovation strategies. After her graduate studies, Janelle hopes to leverage technology and sustainability as a means for helping organizations innovate in ways that reduce environmental impact, promote resource efficiency, and ensure resilient systems while improving profitability and creating better products. Recently, Janelle was named a GreenBiz 30 Under 30 sustainability leader and was named a Grist 50 Fixer in 2018.
