About Jessica's Work
I am a conservation biologist, committed to using scientific techniques and innovative teaching to solve complex environmental issues. I take a holistic view of ecosystems and incorporate methods from both wildlife ecology and the study of human-dimensions of ecological management. As a teacher, I am devoted to helping students develop the scientific and communication skills that will enable them to be better citizens, professionals, and environmental stewards. As a researcher, I study how land use impacts the biological components of ecosystems and the institutional and cultural factors that drive variability in land-use decisions. I frequently use amphibians as model organisms.
