About Joshua's Work
Joshua Wickerham drives transitions to sustainable development through writing and participatory advisory work, especially in China. Joshua is currently Manager, Membership and Engagement at the ISEAL Alliance (www.isealalliance.org), the global association and backbone of the sustainability standards movement. Joshua works at all levels with governments, businesses, civil society, and members of ISEAL, which include standards like FairTrade, the Marine Stewardship Council, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, the Forest Stewardship Council, Rainforest Alliance and many more.
In recent years, Joshua has also consulted with GIZ, WWF, UNEP, UNCTAD, the International Trade Center, DotEco, and other clients on sustainability-related work.
As the China Representative for the international think tank AccountAbility from 2007-2010, Wickerham worked with some of the world’s largest corporations on social responsibility and sustainable development. He also advised governments, civil society and corporations on competitiveness strategies, sustainable trade, and the role of international sustainability standards.
Wickerham earned his bachelors degree at the University of Michigan and his master's at the University of California San Diego’s School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, focusing on non-profit management and international development. Wickerham has also worked closely with Jane Goodall and the Jane Goodall Institute in China and the United States. Wickerham’s writing has appeared in Fortune China, China Dialogue, the UK Guardian, the Gay and Lesbian Review Worldwide, the Journal of International Policy Solutions, and several books and encyclopedias. Wickerham is also a Chinese zither (guqin) enthusiast, passionate balcony vermiculturist and steward of an urban micro garden.
