About Justin's Work
Justin graduated from Bowdoin College with an AB in Mathematics in 2003 and received his PhD in Systems Engineering with a concentration in Operations Research from Boston University in 2012. His PhD Dissertation titled 'Control Systems in Power Markets: Demand Response, Transmission Topology Control, and Renewable Integration' was awarded the Societal Impact Capstone Award. His research interests include tractable transmission topology control, sustainable power systems, electricity market design, and demand-side decision support. In particular, he is working towards the development of an applied science base incorporating demand response and distributed generation, which holds promise for dramatic global effects on sustainable energy when implemented in both developed and developing countries. Justin enjoys rooting for Boston area sports – Go Pats! – as well as sand dollar hunting, wine tasting, and bicycling.
