About Justin's Work
Justin is the Organizing Director for the national progressive grassroots group MoveOn.org. He is responsible for the work MoveOn does to identify and train local grassroots leaders, and helped coordinate Leave No Voter Behind, MoveOn's landmark voter turnout program in the 2004 election. After receiving his master's degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, where he studied the environmental, social, economic, and political effects of globalization, he also worked as a union organizer, and a a consultant in Ecuador to peasant-farmers' groups fighting 'free' trade agreements. Justin grew up in New Haven, CT, and went to Dartmouth College where he wrote a thesis on the effects of logging on New England wildflowers and ferns. He also organized a successful divestment campaign against the Canadian corporation Hydro-Quebec because of its disastrous dam-building plans. After graduating, he completed the Green Corps grassroots environmental leadership training program. Before returning to New Haven for graduate school, he worked for three years as a community organizer with the California non-profit Pesticide Watch, helping farmworkers and other communities impacted by agricultural pesticide pollution fight back.
