About Karina's Work

Karina Garbesi is an Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies at the California State University at Hayward. Her educational achievements include a BA in physics from UC Berkeley (with high honors), and a Masters and PhD in Energy and Resources from the same institution. She was a 1992 Switzer Fellow and a 2000 Leadership Grant recipient. Her research centers on issues of energy, environment, and environmental justice. Her work, both academic and activist, is public interest focused, with publications ranging from pollution science to interdisciplinary energy analysis. She lives with her husband, daughter, and two cats in a house in the San Francisco Bay Area that is powered by the sun.
