Karis North

Karis is practicing law, and specializes in business litigation, environmental litigation, and regulatory and compliance counseling. She has a particular interest and experience in the area of brownfield redevelopment. She works with municipalities, in particular, to get redeveloment grants from EPA, HUD, and other federal and state agencies. In addition, She works with land owners to clean up contaminated properties, within the guidelines of the applicable brownfields statute. In addition to her legal work, she has taken a leadership role in two areas: advocacy and mentoring. She works with The Women's Bar Foundation as a pro bono advocate for battered women; and she also works closely with young women beginning careers in the law. While more and more women are entering law school, there are still inequities in opportunities, compensation, and perceptions of women in the law. She hopes to continue to work to level the playing field for women who chose to practice in any area of the law. => Karis specializes in litigation for public and private clients, especially complex litigation matters and environmental litigation matters. She also counsel clients on regulatory and compliance issues, and represents municipal clients in labor matters. She works with municipalities, in particular, in enforcing state and local environmental laws, and coordinates with federal and state agencies.

In addition to her legal work, she is a leader in her community, currently serving as the Chairman of the Hull Board of Library Trustees and a member of the Hull Capital Planning Committee. She is also the President of the Vermont Law School Alumni Association, advocating for the over 6000 VLS alumni across the US and the world. She is also an advocate and mentor for many young lawyers entering the field.
