About Marianne's Work

Marianne Fisher Vandiver is currently working as a physician assistant in a rural family practice office in Stonington, Maine. She previously was one of two staff scientists for the Natural Resources Council of Maine, focusing primarily on air and water quality issues. Her projects included examining chlorinated organics and other pollutants associated with Maine's pulp and paper mills and airborne toxics associated with medical and municipal waste incineration. She had also worked on water quality issues with the Chesapeake Bay Program and the Lake Champlain Committee. All of these experiences deepened her conviction about the power of and need for the integration of environmental quality and human health concerns, a conviction which propelled her back into the academic arena for another graduate degree in 1995 (physician assistant and MHP).
