Natalie Lord

Natalie is currently a graduate teaching assistant at the University of New Hampshire pursuing an MS in Natural Resource Management specializing in conservation and sustainability. As a New Hampshire Sea Grant Graduate Research Fellow, her research is focused on the intersection of sustainable marine food systems and social equity for the aquaculture industry of New England. She is also pursuing a certificate in College Teaching and is a member of the Environmental Policy, Planning, and Sustainability research lab.

Natalie has devoted her career to assisting coastal communities with the sustainable management of their marine resources. She has an intimate understanding of the value of sustainable social-ecological systems from her experiences as a commercial salmon fisher and Aquatic Reserve coordinator in Washington state. Public service has been a cornerstone of her leadership development, previously serving as an AmeriCorps Service volunteer as well as currently holding a board position on the Friends of Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge nonprofit and the chair of the Maine Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. She holds a BS in Biology and Estudios Hispánicos from St. Lawrence University and grew up on the coast of Maine. Upon graduating from UNH, Natalie hopes to continue working towards the sustainable development of marine food production in an interdisciplinary role that incorporates stakeholder engagement, science, and policy.
