Clara Fang

Clara Fang works to empower traditionally marginalized people in climate advocacy, including people of color and young people. She is the founder of Green Tara Consulting, an organization that supports individuals and organizations working to change the systems of oppression that contribute to climate change and environmental injustice.  As a Ph.D candidate at Antioch University New England, her year-long study on diversity in the climate movement engaged over 1000 climate activists from all walks of life and create a roadmap for improving diversity and equity. She delivers workshops, seminars, and consulting on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In addition to her equity work, Clara works as Student Engagement Director for Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a nonprofit organization that builds political will for climate solutions. Clara oversees programs that have helped thousands of young people learn advocacy skills, organize climate action in their communities, and lobby their elected officials for fair and effective climate policies. She was an adviser to the United Nations Environment Program Youth Education Alliance, and is on the Board of Directors of the Association of Environmental Studies and Sciences.

The child of political refugees persecuted by the Chinese government, Clara and her family immigrated to the US when she was nine years old. She holds a BA in English from Smith College, an MFA in Creative Writing from University of Utah, and a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University. Her writings have been published in the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences, Sustainability: The Journal of Record, the Detroit Free Press, Chicago Tribune, and the New York Times. Her poems have been published in numerous journals including Painted Bride Quarterly, Tupelo Quarterly, Poet Lore, and Terrain.org.
