About Paul's Work
Dr. Paul da Silva is an ecologist, entomologist and educator living and working in Marin County, California. At the time of becoming a Switzer fellow, he was researching integrated pest management (IPM) and biological control of insect pests. He thereafter gradually increased his involvement in education. This led to 23 years of teaching biology, natural history and environmental science at the College of Marin, from which he retired in 2020 before being elected to the college’s Board of Trustees.
His main interests are biodiversity, community ecology, community science, and population dynamics in natural and managed systems. He is a past president of the Pacific Coast Entomological Society (PCES), a long-time board member of the Marin Chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS), and one of the organizers of the Marin Biodiversity Corridor Initiative (MBCI). He is also an active member of many additional community and environmental organizations.
