About Peter's Work

Peter Melhus is an emeritus Associate Professor of Management and Sustainable Business at San Francisco State University. He served as executive director of the Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Communities, a multi-stakeholder, collaborative group in the San Francisco Bay Area, from its creation in 1997 until mid 2004. He chaired the board of directors of the Silicon Valley Environmental Partnership from 1997 - 2004. In 1998 he completed a 25-year career with Pacific Gas & Electric Company, the last eight directing environmental policy for the company. He is a 2002-2003 Switzer Environmental Fellow. Dr. Melhus holds a Ph.D. in city and regional planning from the University of California at Berkeley, a master’s degree in business administration from Santa Clara University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science & Art in New York City.
