About Peter's Work
Peter D. Vickery was president of a new non-profit organization, the Center for Ecological Research. He was on the graduate faculty at the University of Maine, Orono and the Department of Natural Resources Conservation at the University of Massachusetts. Having received his Ph.D. from the University of Maine in 1993, he studied the habitat requirements and the effects of fire on grassland birds and plants in New England and Florida, and most recently, in Argentina. He was the author of the Grasshopper Sparrow account for The Birds of North America, was co-author of "Biological Diversity in Maine" and "A Birder's Guide to Maine", and edited two books:"Grasslands of Northeastern North America: Ecology and Conservation of Native and Agricultural Landscapes" and "Ecology and Conservation of Grassland Birds of the Western Hemisphere". He authored or co-authored more than 40 scientific research papers and numerous popular articles on natural history and conservation. He was working on a new book on the birds of Maine. He lived in Richmond, Maine with his wife, Barbara, and two children, Gabriel and Simon.
