About Sascha's Work

Alexandra “Sascha” von Meier, Co-Director in CIEE’s Electric Grid program area, focuses on power distribution systems, Smart Grid issues, and the integration of distributed and intermittent generation. She joined CIEE in 2010. Before becoming a member of the staff, Sascha worked with CIEE as a presenter of tutorials on power delivery.

Sascha is author of the textbook, 'Electric Power Systems: A Conceptual Introduction'. Until 2011, she was a Professor of Energy Management & Design in the Department of Environmental Studies and Planning at Sonoma State University, where she taught a curriculum centering on energy efficiency and renewable resources. Her past research includes studies of cultural factors in technology adoption, operation of nuclear power plants, and management of nuclear materials. Sascha received a B.A. in physics in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Energy and Resources in 1995 from UC Berkeley.

As a teacher, Sascha enjoys explaining technical concepts to those who don’t have a science or engineering background. In addition to studying all things related to electric energy, she loves cycling, rock climbing, and being in the mountains.
