About Susan's Work
Susan holds a B.S. in Environmental Engineering, MS in Environmental Science and has twenty years experience as an organic farmer. Currently, she teaches at Humboldt State University and is the executive director of the Jacoby Creek Land Trust. Her Master's thesis addressed the development of a Community Agriculture and Permaculture program at Humboldt State. She hopes to share curriculum with similar programs around the world. Susan was instrumental in developing the Arcata Educational Farm, a university-community supported farm (CSA) that serves as an agriculture education center for students and community members. Susan seeks to empower people with the knowledge that as food consumers we are an active link in the food system and that sustainably designed and managed farms can be ecologically appropriate and assist in the development of community self-reliance.
