About Urvi's Work
Urvi currently leads the Renewable Energy Team at Facebook, Inc which is responsible for selecting, negotiating, contracting and managing renewable energy projects to achieve Facebook's goal of being 100% supported by clean energy by 2020. Prior to this role, Urvi was the Director of Origination for the Western Region at SunPower Corporation, a company that designs and manufactures solar PV panels and equipment and develops residential, commercial and utility-scale solar projects. In this role, she negotiated and executed long-term power purchase agreements for projects developed by SunPower in support of SunPower's U.S. utilities solar business, and interfaced with utilities to deploy solar broadly and serve residential, commercial and utility customers. During her time there, Urvi co-led early-stage development efforts for SunPower's largest solar power plant, a 579MWac PV plant in Antelope Valley which is now owned by MidAmerican Renewables and sells power to Southern California Edison. During her Switzer Fellowship, Urvi was completing her Master’s in Business Administration at the Haas School of Business at the University of California – Berkeley where she focused on understanding how market fundamentals and principles could be applied to the growing clean energy sector. For her MBA summer internship, Urvi worked in renewable energy project finance. Prior to business school, Urvi supported the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy as a contractor. In her role, she focused on communicating the importance of clean energy technologies – including solar, fuel cells and building efficiency technologies – to the Department’s stakeholders. During that time, she had the opportunity to work on projects ranging from helping to launch a federal initiative focused on research investments into solar technology to developing partnerships with New Orleans to rebuild the city post-Katrina. In addition to her MBA, Urvi holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
