Thomas Gill

Tom Gill is Professor of Geological Sciences and Environmental Science and Engineering at the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP). He teaches classes in climate science, geology, atmospheric science, and environmental science. Through UTEP's Center for Environmental Resource Management and the NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology, he is conducting research on air quality issues in the Texas- Mexico border region and beyond. Tom is an internationally-known expert on dust storms, atmospheric particulate matter, and global transport of air pollutants. He is a Registered Geologist in the state of Texas. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1995 from UC Davis, he worked as a researcher for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (1995- 1998) and as a research professor in the Wind Science and Engineering Center, Atmospheric Science Group, and departments of Geosciences and Civil Engineering of Texas Tech University, Lubbock (1998- 2004). He is a collaborator in the U.S. Geological Survey's Southwest Climate Impacts Project, looking at environmental impacts of urbanization and climate change in southwestern North America.
