About Linwood's Work
I am the Executive Director of the Ocean Knowledge Action Network and the Science Director for the Moonjelly Foundation. I facilitate a close community of people from around the world who want to share knowledge about co-designing ocean science for a healthier and more diverse ocean. At Moonjelly, I work with our Indigenous and local partners to create new ways of applying bottom-up, trust-based philanthropy to fund traditional and local knowledge collection as well as Indigenous researchers and scientists. Since October 2014, I have also held the International Chair in Marine Ecosystem Services at the European Institute for Marine Studies in Brittany. I continue to serve as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Duke University Marine Laboratory, part of the Nicholas School of the Environment. Previously, I served as the Senior Vice-President for Science at the Centre for the 4th Industrial Revolution - Ocean, the Global Lead for Ocean Science at WWF, the Director of Ocean and Coastal Policy for the Nicholas Institute from 2009-2013, and was the Acting Chief Economist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from 2011-2013. I serve on the Advisory Board of the United Nations Decade of Ecosystem Restoration and previously served on the same type of board for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
