About Nicole's Work
Nicole is an interdisciplinary environmental social scientist whose work focuses on the intersections of biodiversity conservation, governance, and human wellbeing. She focuses particularly on East African conservation with an emphasis on the contribution of local voices. She describes the core objective of her work is to achieve more socially-equitable conservation outcomes without sacrificing environmental integrity. Nicole employs a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods but is particularly keen on the use of participatory methods that acknowledge and work in parallel with local knowledge systems. She is a research affiliate of the University of East Anglia’s global environmental research group and is interested in developing partnerships with others interested in research that seeks transformative change to environmental conflicts. In particular, she seeks connections with others working with communities living adjacent to forested areas or involved in community-based conservation initiatives in the African tropics.
