About Sue's Work
Sue Chiang joined San Francisco’s Department of the Environment in late August 2024 as the Senior Commercial Toxics Reduction Coordinator. Two exciting areas of work that Sue and her team manage include the San Francisco Green Business Certification and Healthy Nails Salons Programs. Sue has over 3 decades of experience in the environmental health field and has worked for a variety of organizations - such as the Center for Environmental Health (CEH), Greenaction for Health & Environmental Justice, the San Francisco Foundation, and the Environmental Defense Fund. Most recently, she was the Director of Green & Clean Procurement at CEH, where she worked with a range of large institutional purchasers to eliminate the use of harmful chemicals and expand the market for environmentally preferable products. She was particularly focused on eliminating PFAS chemicals from food contact products and co-developed a robust certification with Clean Production Action (GreenScreen Certified for Single-Use and GreenScreen Certified for Reusables) to expand the market for foodware and food packaging with preferable chemistry. She received a double-masters in public health and public policy from the University of California - Berkeley, and was the recipient of the prestigious Switzer Environmental Fellowship.
