Fraga wins Peter Raven science outreach award
Naomi Fraga was honored with the 2023 Peter Raven Award, given annually by the American Society of Plant Taxonomists to a plant systematist who has made exceptional efforts at outreach to non-scientists.
According to a Facebook post by the California Botanic Garden, “This award recognizes Dr. Fraga's contributions to plant systematics, including her extensive and diverse outreach and commitment to the plant sciences worldwide. Her nomination letter said that Dr. Fraga is "...making real world impacts via plant conservation, public outreach, and diverse leadership”... Dr. Fraga is an essential part of this work as a scientist and communicator who brings heart, humor, and rigorous research to her advocacy on behalf of the plants and plant communities that she loves.”
Naomi is Director of Conservation Programs at the California Botanic Garden where she provides leadership to the diverse conservation activities at the Garden and works with Federal, State, local agencies, and conservation partners to conduct botanical research that informs on the ground management decisions on public lands.
She said on X (Twitter), “My work communicating about plant conservation @CABotanicGarden has only just begun! Stay tuned!”
