Renewable Energy in Southeast Asia
Chris Greacen will work with rural villages in southeast Asia to design and build renewable energy systems, and to work with government policy makers and local & international NGOs to challenge environmentally destructive energy development projects and catalyze conditions for a shift towards cleaner, more democratic and sustainable energy options. Green Empowerment will team up with Palang Thai (Chris Greacen's Thailand-based NGO) on this project to allow Chris to serve as Green Empowerment's representative for southeast Asia. Specifically, Chris will (1) work with communities and NGOs to design and build renewable energy systems and sustainable governance mechanisms in rural villages in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos; and (2) work with government policy makers in the Mekong Region to provide policy suggestions that will reflect cleaner, more democratic governance mechanisms for sustainable energy development and develop Green Power Development Plans.
